UPDATED: CHARLIE WOODS LEADS BENJAMIN TO FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL TITLE<\/a><\/p>\n Charlie Woods kicked off his bid for Florida state glory with a rollercoaster 74 as the 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods<\/a> teed it up for Benjamin School at the Florida Class 1A State Championship.<\/p>\n The two-day, 36-hole showdown is being played at Mission Inn Resort\u2019s brutal El Campe\u00f3n Course in Howey-in-the-Hills \u2014 a layout known for punishing anything even slightly offline, and Charlie<\/a> certainly felt its bite.<\/p>\n Despite flashes of brilliance, including four birdies, Charlie mixed in four bogeys and a double to sign for a lively opening round that left him T19 on the individual leaderboard.<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n But the real story is brewing at the top of the team standings because, well quite frankly, that’s all that matters for Charlie this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n After day one, the state title is shaping up to be a three-way dogfight between Orlando First Academy, Palm Beach Benjamin, and Orlando Circle Christian.<\/p>\n First Academy set the pace with a 1-under 287, edging one clear of Benjamin and two ahead of Circle Christian heading into Saturday’s decisive final round.<\/p>\n Benjamin were kept in the hunt thanks to a superb 68 from Alexander Tsar, tying him for the lead with First Academy\u2019s Mingbo Jiang.<\/p>\n The Bucs arrived to the Florida Class 1A State Championship with serious pedigree.\u00a0<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n They qualified for state after cruising past defending champions<\/a> Oxbridge Academy at Regionals and sit as the No.1 ranked high-school team in Florida, per the FHSAA iWanamaker rankings.<\/p>\n As for Charlie, this season has already been a landmark one.\u00a0<\/p>\n Just last week he was named a first-team All-American by the AJGA<\/a> \u2014 the very same honour his father earned back in the early 90s.\u00a0<\/p>\n Charlie was one of only 12 boys nationwide selected for the prestigious list.<\/p>\n Miles Russell, Walker Cup alternate and one of America\u2019s top prospects, earned Player of the Year for the second straight season, matching Tiger\u2019s back-to-back triumph in 1991 and 1992.<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n Charlie currently sits ninth in the AJGA rankings, propelled by his breakthrough win at the Team TaylorMade Invitational<\/a> in March.\u00a0<\/p>\n He also delivered a stunning hole-in-one<\/a> at TPC Sawgrass\u2019 iconic 17th during the Junior Players Championship.<\/p>\n That ace wasn\u2019t even his first in competition \u2014 he famously made another alongside Tiger at the PNC Championship in December 2024, the last time we saw the 15-time major champion tee it up competitively.<\/p>\n Tiger, now 49, remains sidelined after the seventh back surgery<\/a> of his career, with no comeback timeline in sight.
