Micky van de Ven is yet to sign a new deal with Tottenham Hotspur, but the Lilywhites will be desperate to tie him down for the long term.<\/p>\n

The football world appears to have woken up this season as to just how good a player Micky van de Ven<\/a> has been for Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It seemed the Dutchman would not be able to top his superb goal-line clearance in the Europa League<\/a> final, but his Champions League<\/a> goal against Copenhagen might well have done that.<\/p>\n

The centre-back has been a crucial player to Spurs during the current campaign, stepping up to captain the side when Cristian Romero<\/a> was injured. Also, he is the club\u2019s top goalscorer, registering six goals in all competitions.<\/p>\n

Former Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz has been impressed by van de Ven, and he believes the Spurs man is the ideal player to replace Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Boulahrouz sees van de Ven as the \u2018ideal successor\u2019 to van Dijk and this includes the Dutch national team, as well as the reigning champions of the Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He told ESPN NL<\/a>: \u201cHe [van de Ven] really stands out. He\u2019s physically strong and incredibly fast. Opponents know that, so they don\u2019t even try to get past him anymore. He could be better on the ball sometimes; he makes the occasional mistake. But overall, I think he\u2019s fantastic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he\u2019s the ideal successor to Virgil van Dijk, both for the Dutch national team and Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe question is, of course, what Virgil will do after the World Cup. When you\u2019ve been playing in the Premier League for years, your body has taken a beating. You might start longing to take it a bit easier.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Liverpool is not crazy: if you\u2019re looking for a world-class left defender and you have enough money, you\u2019ll quickly end up with Van de Ven.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe same goes for the Dutch national team. I think [Ronald] Koeman has long since realised that Van Dijk\u2019s successor is already there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Dijk signed a contract extension earlier this year, which will keep him at Liverpool until the summer of 2027. Currently, he is still viewed as the team\u2019s best central defender ahead of Ibrahima Konate.<\/p>\n

This could mean it is not worth Liverpool attempting to sign van de Ven until later down the line. However, van Dijk could be played on the right side of defence, opening up the opportunity for the Tottenham centre-back to play alongside him.<\/p>\n

Whether Liverpool express interest in van de Ven or not, there is bound to be plenty of interest and Spurs must get in first and tie him down to a long-term contract. He is simply too good a player to lose.<\/p>\n
