His adjustments to Hanke\u2019s Misery Index have set the nation\u2019s level of \u201cmisery\u201d at 9%, making the current sum of inflation and unemployment \u201cthe worst they have been this century\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s obvious the answers that have done a good job over recent decades are failing to answer the problems that are emerging,\u201d Hooton said, \u201cyet no one has come up with what the new answers might be.\u201d<\/p>\n
He thinks the index would likely need to drop below 6% for the current Government to be re-elected, a percentage decrease he said there is not much sign of currently.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not all doom and gloom \u2013 Simplicity chief economist Shamubeel Eaqub said there are \u201csigns of stabilisation\u201d despite rising unemployment and falling immigration. <\/p>\n
