I originally thought it was just a rather large fish, as they’re quite common.

A Trowbridge resident has described their amazement an otter has been seen swimming in the river in a town centre spot. (Image: Becca Field)

“As I got closer I saw the face and then thought it was a beaver. It wasn’t until I was right by it that I realised it was actually an otter! I remember saying out loud ‘oh wow!’ And stood watching whilst it swam around.

“I knew that otters had been spotted in Warminster but was surprised they’d ended up down here. I was amazed if I’m honest. I’ve seen them before but in zoo’s, never in the wild.

“It’s nice to see new wildlife, especially as most of the water around Trowbridge is heavily polluted with litter but this little otter seemed very content.

“It’s definitely a rarity, I’ve lived here my whole life and only encountered a very small handful of uncommon wildlife. But the otter definitely takes the top spot.”

Becca Field was heading to work on the morning of Thursday, November 13 when she caught sight of…

[26
90,56,54,55,4407
0":"post-266122","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-wildlife","8":"tag-science","9":"tag-uk","10":"tag-united-kingdom","11":"tag-unitedkingdom","12":"tag-wildlife
["GET
