On Nov.12, 20th Century Studios released audience\u2019s first glimpse at the highly anticipated \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u201d<\/a> film with a 51-second teaser trailer<\/a>. Reprising their roles of Miranda Priestly and Andrea Sachs respectively, the scene captures a brief interaction between Meryl Streep<\/a> and Anne Hathaway<\/a> in an elevator at the iconized headquarters of Runway Magazine\u2014the American Vogue-inspired setting of the first film\u2019s most memorable scenes.<\/p>\n In addition to sparking new conversation around the fate of the film\u2019s beloved characters such as Nigel and Emily, acted by Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt respectively, a possible new love interest played by Patrick Brammall and the introduction of fresh faces preformed by Simone Ashley, Ashley Graham, Pauline Chalamet, Amelia Gray Hamlin and Amelia Dimoldenberg, the teaser made its biggest impression as a sneak preview of the fashion to be seen on screen\u2014especially after the cult-status the original film\u2019s wardrobe and lead costume designer Patricia Field has earned among fans, with references to the movie\u2019s looks made almost 20 years after the \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada\u201d was first released in 2006. <\/p>\n Molly Rogers, a longtime collaborator and prot\u00e9g\u00e9 of Fields while she worked on projects like \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada\u201d and \u201cSex and the City,\u201d is the lead costume designer on the new film. <\/p>\n Response From Fans<\/p>\n Covered by a slew of both major media outlets and independent content creators, the franchise\u2019s newest film and recently released teaser trailer have earned a varied array of critiques, praise and indecision online. <\/p>\n Amy Odell<\/a>, fashion and culture journalist, author of bestselling biographies \u201cAnna\u201d and \u201cGwyneth\u201d and writer of the popular Substack newsletter \u201cBack Row,\u201d uploaded a short video<\/a> onto her social media platforms questioning the choice of styling Streep\u2019s character in cherry red Valentino Rockstud pumps\u2014an incredibly sought-after silhouette from the early 2010s. <\/p>\n \u201cDoes anyone else feel like they can\u2019t unsee these shoes in \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u2019 teaser trailer,\u201d Odell said. \u201c\u2026these shoes were kind of a choice. Looks like they\u2019re going even bigger and bolder with the costumes for this movie.\u201d<\/p>\n This video, and others like it, exemplify a popular conversation among viewers post-teaser release\u2014with many wondering about the meaning behind the standout footwear. Some have assumed the shoe choice\u2014while a small detail\u2014was used to symbolize that Priestly has fallen behind on what is \u201cin Vogue\u201d and will need to find a successor to fill her shoes\u2014pardon the pun. Her modern wardrobe is closer to the peek at Sachs\u2019 style audiences see at the end of \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada,\u201d with a bit of insight from her time at the magazine and presumably a decade of personal growth elevating her looks from fresh college grad to confident New York journalist just in time for the second film. <\/p>\n Referencing behind-the-scene imagery released during the film\u2019s initial shoot last Summer, Hathaway\u2019s character seems to be styled mostly in sharp, angular blouses, cropped wide-leg pants, colorful maxi dresses and an array of unique bag and shoe combinations that have both fans of archival fashion and new designers excited for the way Sachs\u2019 reinvigorated style is represented on-screen. <\/p>\n As for the rest of the film\u2019s fashion, audiences are going to have to wait patiently for a full-length trailer release\u2014hopefully revealing just as much about the clothing as the movie\u2019s central plot. <\/p>\n
