Despite leaking around 12 hours earlier than expected, Horizon Steel Frontiers\u2019<\/a> announcement trailer has now topped 2.5 million views on YouTube<\/a>, three days after it debuted. Meanwhile, its gameplay trailer<\/a> has managed a further 217k views.<\/p>\n

We expect some of these views have been generated by pre-roll ads, but it\u2019s still an impressive debut from the NCSOFT effort, which will launch first and foremost on mobile, as well as on PC via the South Korean company\u2019s proprietary Purple emulator.<\/p>\n

While the comments are mostly negative \u2013 largely criticising \u201cpredatory\u201d monetisation mechanics which haven\u2019t even been announced yet, as well as the lack of a PS5 version<\/a> \u2013 the estimated Like\/Dislike meter shown using Google Chrome\u2019s extension leans more positive overall.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, we think Sony made a mistake by not announcing Guerrilla\u2019s own presumably PS5-bound multiplayer effort<\/a> alongside this.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Clearly there\u2019s a sentiment among PlayStation\u2019s most hardcore players that they\u2019re being ignored here, but we have to imagine there\u2019s method in the madness, and that NCSOFT\u2019s own game will sit snugly alongside whatever the Amsterdam studio is also working on.<\/p>\n

Either way, the South Korean dev has indicated it\u2019s interested<\/a> in bringing Horizon Steel Frontiers to the console, and with mobile games like Genshin Impact<\/a> and Honkai: Star Rail<\/a> proving already hugely popular on the platform, we wouldn\u2019t be surprised if it ended up getting the green light.<\/p>\n

But the key thing for this project is clearly reaching a previously untapped audience, and looking at the trailer engagement, it\u2019s already off to a good start. This will be a project to keep an eye on for sure.<\/p>\n
