Harpurhey<\/a> in Manchester, who both have children, were spared jail following the incident.<\/p>\nWarrington Magistrates’ Court heard how the incident began at 1pm on April 24 this year when one of the victims, who was walking her dog, saw the two women who seemed ‘very drunk’.<\/p>\n
She heard one say ‘you don’t jump a lone female’.<\/p>\n
She walked around the pair so as to not cross them and then bumped into her male friend and a female companion, before the three began chatting.<\/p>\n
In a statement to police, the victim said: “I began laughing at something that was said – then one of the females said \u2018do not laugh at me.\u2019<\/p>\n
“We carried on walking but the females followed us. The woman in white then pushed me to the chest.<\/p>\n
“I thought they were trying to taunt us into a fight. The women in blue called my friend a f*ggot.<\/p>\n
“We all tried to walk away but they carried on pushing us. The woman in white lunged at us and grabbed my hair.<\/p>\n

“I got her off but the woman in blue spat in my face. She also spat at my male friend.<\/p>\n
“He was trying to stand his ground. They effectively abused him.”<\/p>\n
The male victim described how his friend was grabbed by the hair and pulled her to the ground.<\/p>\n
He added: “The woman in blue spat at me and spat at her.<\/p>\n
“I had a coffee in my hand and I threw it the woman in blue in an attempt to to stop her spitting. I remained between the two so she could not do it again.”<\/p>\n
Angela Blackmore, prosecuting, told the court: “Officers arrived shortly after and they witnessed both defendants shouting.<\/p>\n
“As far as spitting is concerned, it is a particularly unsavoury manner of offending.”<\/p>\n
The court was shown four minutes of mobile phone footage which showed the attackers following and verbally abusing the victims.<\/p>\n
The woman wearing a white top and white leggings was understood to be McNamara and the other another wearing a blue crop top with jeans, was identified as Egan.<\/p>\n
In mitigation for Egan, defence lawyer Ian Weights said: “She had a troubled adolescence in which he ended up growing up, perhaps far too quickly.<\/p>\n
“She ended up getting involved in things which we would not expect someone of her age to be involved with.<\/p>\n
“When she has had alcohol she can lose control of herself. She can be aggressive and difficult to deal with and cause problems for people.<\/p>\n
“She was with a friend who was also in drink and one may have wound the other one up and that has not helped.<\/p>\n
“It is not a pleasant incident. No-one would want to be walking their dog and have to be contending with that. But fortunately it did not go to another level.”<\/p>\n
Egan, of Lilac Crescent, Runcorn, had 50 offences on her record dating back to 2005, including 21 previous assault offences and six public order matters.<\/p>\n
In 2024 she was convicted of two offences of assault on an emergency worker, the court heard.<\/p>\n
She admitted assault and using threatening behaviour at Warrington Magistrates’ Court last week and was sentenced to 10 week in jail suspended for a year.<\/p>\n
McNamara, of Stanway Street, Harpurhey, Manchester, admitted assault and threatening behaviour at an earlier hearing was sentenced to a 12 month community order.<\/p>\n
Egan was also ordered to complete 25 days of rehabilitation activity and a 120 day alcohol abstinence monitoring programme. She was also ordered to pay \u00a3100 in compensation.<\/p>\n
