Liverpool could continue their summer spending spree given a report claims they hold interest in signing a young striker this transfer window.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> are among a number of Premier League clubs to have enquired for Metz<\/a> striker\u00a0Idrissa Gueye<\/a>, the latest report has claimed.<\/p>\n

The Reds were beaten 4-2 by AC Milan<\/a> in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong on Saturday, though key attacker Florian Wirtz<\/a> managed to excel.<\/p>\n

Boss Arne Slot<\/a> opted to deploy the German as a false nine, but striker Hugo Ekitike<\/a> can be expected to lead the line against\u00a0Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Merseysiders’ could still make more additions in attack considering they have been strongly linked with Newcastle United number nine Alexander Isak<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Football Insider<\/a>\u00a0claim that Liverpool have also made an enquiry for Metz striker Gueye, though they will have to beat competition from the likes of West Ham United<\/a>, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace<\/a> to secure his signature.<\/p>\n

Gueye is just 18 years old but he managed to score five league goals in 17 Ligue 2 appearances last term, an impressive total considering his inexperience.<\/p>\n

While the Senegalese would find it difficult to claim a place in the starting XI in the immediate future, Liverpool seem to be planning for life without talisman Mohamed Salah.<\/p>\n

The Egyptian has been the club’s leading scorer since joining in 2017-18, but he will be 35 by the time his contract expires in 2027.<\/p>\n

Ekitike and Wirtz were signed for initial fees of \u00a369m and \u00a3100m respectively, and the Reds will hope that they can take up Salah’s goalscoring burden once he leaves Anfield.<\/p>\n

Should Liverpool manage to convince Newcastle to sell Isak this summer, Slot will be blessed with an abundance of attacking options in 2025-26.<\/p>\n

Gueye would also secure the future of the club’s attack, but there is a concern that the Reds have invested too heavily in their foward line this transfer window.<\/p>\n

Centre-back Virgil van Dijk<\/a> is 34 years old, Joe Gomez<\/a> is injury prone and Ibrahima Konate<\/a>‘s contract expires in the summer of 2026, and failure to sign another central defender could prove costly next term.<\/p>\n

The Premier League champions have been linked with Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi<\/a>, and if they were to bring him to Anfield alongside the likes of Isak and\u00a0Gueye, then Slot’s squad would be in a strong position from which to challenge on all fronts for a number of years.<\/p>\n
