Classic TV fans will be excited to know that the BBC<\/a> are set to bring back a beloved TV classic 40 years after it first aired. The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13\u00be first graced our screens 40 years ago and viewers are hoping it’s coming back.<\/p>\n BBC bosses are said to be putting all of the plans in place which includes gathering an all star cast for the reboot. The series is a comedy which is based on Sue Townsend\u2019s first book.<\/p>\n It has been rumoured that fans can expect the show to return in late 2026 but an exact date is yet to be confirmed. The original programme was created by ITV<\/a> in 1985 and then follow-up The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole came after in 1987.<\/p>\n READ MORE: New \u00a320 beauty baubles contain up to \u00a370 worth of brands like Laneige and Liz Earle<\/a> The Sun reported that a source said: “The Beeb are looking to install a similarly famous cast to play the roles in this new version, as they appreciate just how seminal the show was the first time round.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re going to keep the vibe of the show as very comedic, and faithful to Townsend\u2019s original creation, particularly as they understand a whole generation of viewers watched this programme, and read the book, when they were growing up.<\/p>\n \u201cFilming is likely to start early in the new year with a view to it potentially airing towards the end of 2026 \u2013 and given how anticipated it will be, it\u2019s likely to land itself a prime time slot. The fact they\u2019re already putting it on BBC One speaks volumes about how important they view the reboot.”<\/p>\n The source added that there is “huge potential for sequels” due to there being eight books in the Adrian Mole series which can be turned into TV shows.<\/p>\n The series followed a teenager called Adrian who documented the difficulties he went through growing up in a diary he writes in daily in the home he shares with his mum and dad.<\/p>\n Adrian also makes it no secret that he has a crush on fellow school girl Pandora Braithwaite who is the most popular girl in his class. But luckily for him, they eventually go on to be in a relationship with one another.<\/p>\n There was also a second series which was produced which was called The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole. This one was based on Townsend\u2019s second book in the series.<\/p>\n This aired back in 1987 and saw Lulu take over from Julie Walters playing the role of Adrian’s mother. It is yet to be fully confirmed whether the BBC is planning a return of the iconic series, but it has been said that some well-known actors are being lined up for the job.<\/p>\n The Mirror have contacted the BBC for comment<\/p>\n Like this story?
