{"id":269000,"date":"2025-11-18T03:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T03:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/269000\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T03:52:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T03:52:13","slug":"so-long-plastic-wet-wipes-but-should-we-be-flushing-the-new-ones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/269000\/","title":{"rendered":"So long, plastic wet wipes &#8211; but should we be flushing the new ones?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">At Minworth Wastewater Treatment works in the Midlands the scale of the current problem can be both seen and smelt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Minworth serves a population of more than two million people across Birmingham and the Black Country and Severn Trent, who run the facility, say 10 tonnes a day of wet wipes end up here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a nightmare,&#8221; Grant Mitchell, Severn Trent&#8217;s head of blockages says, as we survey a small mountain of wipes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He&#8217;s just shown us the area where the &#8220;un-flushables&#8221; are filtered out from the sewage. It&#8217;s grotty stuff.
