{"id":269688,"date":"2025-11-18T13:01:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T13:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/269688\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T13:01:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T13:01:08","slug":"londonderry-hospitals-body-worn-camera-trial-after-staff-abuse-spike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/269688\/","title":{"rendered":"Londonderry hospitals: Body-worn camera trial after staff abuse spike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Body-worn cameras are being trialled at two Londonderry hospitals following an increase in assaults on staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Western Health and Social Care Trust said the three-month trial at Altnagelvin Hospital&#8217;s emergency department and Grangewood&#8217;s mental health unit would increase staff, patient and public safety.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The cameras, which nursing, medical and clerical staff began wearing at the start of November, are only activated during incidents of abuse, violence, aggression or when there is a security risk, the trust said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Incidents of staff being physically or verbally abused, the trust added, has increased by 27% over the last two years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Body-worn cameras are being trialled at two Londonderry hospitals following an increase in assaults on staff.
