Daniel Radcliffe<\/a> sent a letter to the next Harry Potter, but not through Hedwig.\n<\/p>\n While appearing on Good Morning America on Tuesday, Nov. 18, Radcliffe was asked by Sam Champion<\/a> about the forthcoming TV adaptation of\u00a0Harry Potter<\/a>, which is set to star 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin<\/a> in the titular role previously held by Radcliffe, 36.\n<\/p>\n “I wouldn\u2019t say that anyone who is going to play Harry has to [reach out],” Radcliffe said. “And I have a very sweet, I know a few people who are working on the production so I wrote to Dominic and I sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back.”\n<\/p>\n Radcliffe, who played The Boy Who Lived from 2001 through 2011 in the eight-film series, added that he does “not want to be a specter in the light of these children,” referring to the cast including actors McLaughlin, Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) and Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger).\n<\/p>\n From left: Arabella Stanton, Dominic McLaughlin and Alastair Stout.<\/p>\n Courtesy of Aidan Monaghan\/HBO<\/p>\n “I just wanted to write to him to say, \u2018I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did \u2014 I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time,’ “Radcliffe recalled of the note. “And I do, I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them.”\n<\/p>\n He added, “They just seem so young. Rowling’s book series, kicked off production in July, and is set to premiere in 2027. It will adapt each of the franchise’s seven books into a separate season over the next few years.\n<\/p>\n While it features new cast members such as John Lithgow<\/a>\u00a0as Albus Dumbledore,\u00a0Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape<\/a> and\u00a0Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy<\/a>, the series also sees Warwick Davis<\/a>\u00a0reprising his role as Charms professor Filius Flitwick \u2014 so there should be plenty of familiarity for Potter fans.\n<\/p>\n “We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” HBO and Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys said in a\u00a0press release<\/a>\u00a0from Warner Bros. Discovery in April 2023.\n<\/p>\n The release added that “each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”\n<\/p>\n Daniel Radcliffe on Oct. 5, 2025.<\/p>\n Rob Kim\/Getty<\/p>\n While Radcliffe has confirmed that he\u00a0wouldn’t be participating in the series<\/a>, he told\u00a0E!\u00a0in May 2024 that he was “very excited to watch as an audience member.”\n<\/p>\n Radcliffe is now slated for play Every Brilliant Thing<\/a>, which is set to preview starting on Feb. 21, 2026, at the Hudson Theatre, with opening night set for March 12. The strictly limited engagement runs through May 24.\n<\/p>\n
