This morning saw the release of the new full trailer for \u201cProject Hail Mary,\u201d the highly anticipated sci-fi feature which sees \u201cSpider-Verse\u201d franchise creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller writing and directing an adaptation of a famed novel by \u201cThe Martian\u201d author Andy Weir.<\/p>\n

Drew Goddard, who penned the Ridley Scott-directed adaptation of \u201cThe Martian,\u201d returns here as well. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra H\u00fcller, Milana Vayntrub and Ken Leung star in the film in which Gosling plays astronaut Ryland Grace who awakens on a spacecraft with no memory of himself or his mission.<\/p>\n

He slowly deduces he is the sole survivor of a crew sent to the Tau Ceti solar system in search of a solution to a catastrophic event on Earth. In his search for answers, Grace must rely on his vast array of scientific knowledge, sheer ingenuity, and human will \u2013 but he may not have to search alone.<\/p>\n

The trailer has been met with a pretty positive response, though one common criticism that has come up from fans of the book is that the trailer gives away too much \u2013 namely showing off some of the alien character \u2018Rocky\u2019.<\/p>\n

Patricipating in a Reddit AMA<\/a>, Lord and Miller were asked about why they decided to reveal Rocky this early rather than keeping that surprise a secret until the movie is released. They had a pretty good response:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t tell this story without introducing Rocky, because the heart of the story is the relationship between him and Grace. As fans of the book, you know Rocky is the second lead of this movie.<\/p>\n

And what\u2019s shown in the trailer is just a glimpse of what\u2019s to come. Rocky is such a beautiful and \u2018amaze-\u2018ing character, and we were all very thoughtful about what to show and when.. You all know how much more there is to this story and relationship than what is shown in the trailer, and we\u2019re excited for everyone to see where it goes!\u201d<\/p>\n

The character is reportedly a physical creation \u201cbrought to life on set by lead puppeteer James Ortiz and the rest of the Rocketeers\u201d and is considered one of the strongest practical elements of the film.<\/p>\n
