Nick Cave<\/a>\u00a0has hailed Geese<\/a>\u2018s new album \u2018Getting Killed<\/a>\u2018 as music that makes him feel \u201chappy\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Australian rocker praised the cult New York band on his website\u00a0The Red Hand Files<\/a>, where he was asked by a reader what song \u201ccomes to mind when you are genuinely joyful\u201d.<\/p>\n

In response, Cave wrote that he had gotten up at 5am that morning after feeling restless from all the \u201cwhat-ifs, and yeah-buts, and what-abouts swirling around in my mind\u201d. After swimming in the icy-cold lake in a nearby park, Cave wrote about the album he listened to after getting dressed, buying a coffee and walking back.<\/p>\n

\u201cI put my earphones in and played Geese\u2019s new album, \u2018Getting Killed\u2019,\u201d Cave wrote. \u201cThe first song starts with Cameron Winter singing, in his lovely, plaintive way \u2013 \u201cI try\/ I try\/ I try so hard\u201d \u2013 and I feel those simple words down to my soul, because we all try, because we all try so hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the band kicks into the chorus \u2013 I mean, my God, those drums \u2013 and Cameron Winter screams, again and again \u2013\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s a bomb in my car! There\u2019s a bomb in my car!\u201d \u2013 all worry is laid to waste,\u201d Cave continued. \u201cThe endorphins rushing wild from the freezing water, the music pounding through my body, the caffeine, the fucking ducks and the God-roiling sky \u2013 no what-ifs, no yeah-buts, no what-abouts, no caveats, at all.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI am made happy, and that happiness is entire and incontestable. And all the way home, I go\u2014to my beautiful waking wife \u2013 on this, the best day ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Cave has previously praised frontman Cameron Winter\u2019s solo album<\/a>, writing: \u201cI listened to Cameron Winter\u2019s startling, wigged-out album, \u2018Heavy Metal\u2019. A glorious, emotive voice with brilliant, blistering words, a racked and wondrous thing \u2013 \u2018Today, I met who I\u2019m gonna be from now on \/ And he\u2019s a piece of shit\u2019.\u00a0Amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Getting Killed\u2019 is the New York band\u2019s latest album; it\u2019s garnered them near-universal acclaim and huge breakthrough success since they starred on NME\u2018s Cover in 2023<\/a>. We gave \u2018Getting Killed\u2019 a\u00a0five-star review<\/a>, writing: \u201cThis is a band living up to their reputation as exhilaratingly free-spirited, not so much proving they deserve all the accolades and fervent fanaticism bubbling around them but demanding it\u201d.<\/p>\n

The band will visit the UK next year for a set of huge shows.
