Rian Johnson\u2019s proposed \u201cStar Wars\u201d trilogy is dead, it seems.<\/p>\n

The \u201cKnives Out\u201d franchise director, who previously directed 2017\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: The Last Jedi,\u201d has given a new interview with THR<\/a> with the trade saying \u201cthat plan is effectively dead\u201d.<\/p>\n

They add that Johnson isn\u2019t saying goodbye yet, with the filmmaker saying: \u201cA part of my brain will always be in \u2018Star Wars\u2019. It\u2019s so much a part of me and the way I think.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson has previously said he was open to working with Lucasfilm at some point in the future, but there have been no developments on that front. He\u2019s currently busy prepping his own original sci-fi feature.<\/p>\n

The next \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie to hit cinemas will be Jon Favreau\u2019s \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d opening on May 22nd 2026. That film, though ostensibly a standalone feature, is being seen as essentially the fourth season of \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d series.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Empire<\/a>, Favreau himself disagrees with that assessment \u2013 indicating a fourth season has already been written:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were planning on doing a fourth season. I had actually written all of that. I still have season 4 sitting on my desk here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Favreau hasn\u2019t indicated if he plans to bring back \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d for a fourth season after the film.
