Ian Wright shared the joy of the nation when the Lionesses defended their Women’s Euros title against Spain.<\/p>\n

England<\/a> were 3-1 winners<\/a> in their penalty shootout against the world champions to lift back-to-back European titles after the match finished 1-1 after extra-time.<\/p>\n

Chloe Kelly, who netted the winner against Germany in 2022, scored the deciding spot-kick on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The shootout was a nervy affair, with tensions spreading from the St. Jakob-Park pitch and into the crowd.<\/p>\n

Wright<\/a> was part of ITV’s coverage alongside Karen Carney and Emma Hayes, with former talkSPORT host Laura Woods presenting.<\/p>\n

In new footage, Wright is seen celebrating after Salma Paralluelo sent her penalty wide of the post.<\/p>\n

He then nervously waited for Kelly to take her spot-kick and threw his arms in the air once the Arsenal<\/a> star thumped in the winner.<\/p>\n

As Carney, Woods and Hayes embraced each other, Wright joined in and hugged them as they soaked in the celebratory scenes in Basel.<\/p>\n

The Arsenal legend then turned towards a camera behind him and, with a typical wide grin, fist-pumped the air in clear joy.<\/p>\n

Whilst the Lionesses will celebrate their latest success, some may already be setting their sights on the 2027 World Cup.<\/p>\n

And with United States boss Hayes standing alongside him, Wright believes they will be England’s biggest competitors for the title.<\/p>\n

“They\u2019re the favourites, they’re the ones to beat. They’re so good, they’re so good!” he said.<\/p>\n

“If we get anywhere near them I’d be really happy because they’re the ones, they’re major favourites.”<\/p>\n

Kelly will take the headlines for scoring the winning goal for England in a Euros final once again.<\/p>\n

But goalkeeper Hannah Hampton is also worthy of praise having saved two Spain penalties in the shootout.<\/p>\n

England rode their luck for much of the tournament, but the title is theirs once again.<\/p>\n

At full-time, talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham said<\/a>: “Truly unbelievable Lionesses, more like goddesses.<\/p>\n

“Has there ever been a journey like it at a major tournament? Any wonder the fans are going crazy.<\/p>\n

“Let me give you a wild stat, during the knockout stages of these Euros, England led in normal time for one minute and they’ve only gone and won the European championships.<\/p>\n

“Absolutely crazy and what a tournament for them, they lost their first game, we’re all down, we all thought it was going to be out.<\/p>\n

“Destroyed the Dutch in the second game, walked over the Welsh, came from two down and won a ridiculous penalty shootout in the quarter-final, 96th minute equaliser in the semi, missed the penalty in extra time, Chloe Kelly only buries the rebound.<\/p>\n

“And then they come here to Basel in the final and beat the world champions, and it’s Chloe Kelly again and it’s Hannah Hampton again.”<\/p>\n

Durham added: “They had a list of injuries before and during the tournament, they also had players who gave up on England weeks before the tournament started and it was chaos.<\/p>\n

“They’ve had to deal with racial abuse mid-tournament and the players who did come here, the ones who wanted it more never gave up, they never cried about it, they got on with it.<\/p>\n

“They showed resilience, they refused to be beaten, they were proper England, they are proper champions, not once but twice, they won it in 20222, they’ve only gone and won it again in 2025.<\/p>\n

“You beauties, everything’s stacked against them, you have got to have nothing but admiration for every single one of those players and the staff, so much thrown at them, they’ve dealt with it all, they’ve won it all.”<\/p>\n

The Lionesses are set to be in London this coming Tuesday for an open-top bus parade.<\/p>\n
