Two prison officers were hospitalised after an inmate stabbed them with an \u2018improvised weapon\u2019, it has been reported.<\/p>\n
Another guard was also wounded in the attack at HMP Isle of Wight<\/a>.<\/p>\n One officer, aged 32, sustained injuries in the face, while another 28-year-old was stabbed in his right arm, Island Echo<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n The assault allegedly occurred in the prison\u2019s inpatient unit on Thursday.<\/p>\n A police investigation into the incident is now underway, but no arrests have yet been made.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n The suspected prisoner is thought to have now been transferred to the facility\u2019s segregation and facilitation unit.<\/p>\n Both hospitalised prison workers have since been discharged.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said: \u2018Attacks on our staff are cowardly and unacceptable which is why we push for the strongest possible punishments.\u2019<\/p>\n Hampshire<\/a> Constabulary said in a statement: \u2018We have received reports of a serious assault at HMP Isle of Wight where a 32-year-old man has received facial injuries. <\/p>\n \u2018An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident.\u2019<\/p>\n HMP Isle of Wight houses more than 1,000 prisoners across two sites on the island.<\/p>\n A recent report showed that assaults on prison staff across the UK had reached record levels.<\/p>\n An estimated 10,477 incidents were reported in the year up to June 2025.<\/p>\n Ministry of Justice figures showed that there were a total of 411 deaths in custody in the year up to September 2025, a 30 per cent increase on the previous year.<\/p>\n Nearly a quarter of incidents (97) were self inflicted, a nine per cent uptick.<\/p>\n Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n For more stories like this, check our news page<\/a>.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow
