{"id":277424,"date":"2025-11-22T15:19:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T15:19:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/277424\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T15:19:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T15:19:17","slug":"household-energy-bills-to-rise-by-0-2-from-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/277424\/","title":{"rendered":"Household energy bills to rise by 0.2% from January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Household energy bills are set to rise by 0.2% from January 1 after Ofgem increased its next price cap.<\/p>\n<p>The regulator said energy bills will rise by about 28p a month for the average dual-fuel household in England, Scotland and Wales.<\/p>\n<p>This amounts to an average overall bill of \u00a31,758 per year for those on a default tariff, up from the current \u00a31,755.<\/p>\n<p>The unexpected increase comes after experts at Cornwall Insight said they expected prices to fall by 1% because of lower wholesale energy prices.<\/p>\n<p>Ofgem said wholesale prices were currently stable and had fallen by 4% over the past three months, but that conditions remained \u201cvolatile\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Jarvis, director general of markets for Ofgem, said: \u201cWhile energy prices have fallen in real terms over the past two years, we know people may not be feeling it in their pockets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe price cap helps protect households from overpaying for energy.
