A Scouse drill rapper who shot to fame after illicitly recording songs inside his prison cell is unrecognisable nearly a decade after being locked up. Malcolm Graham, from Bootle<\/a> in Merseyside, was sentenced to prison in 2016<\/a> when detectives discovered footage on his iPhone of him test firing a pistol later used to murder teenager Kevin Wilson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kevin was shot in the back in February 2015, with Graham subsequently pleading guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm, possession of bullets and two counts of wounding with intent. There is no suggestion that Graham had any involvement in the murder.<\/p>\n

He was then sentenced to 11 years in prison and began a drill rap career from his prison cell – now going by the name Mazza L20. Graham, currently 27, illegally recorded various songs – bragging about owning a pump action shotgun at 14 and terrorising police informants – before releasing them on TikTok and YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Graham was released from prison in May 2024 and has since released five albums as Mazza L20, detailing his time behind bars. His most popular single, Murdaside, includes the lyrics: “They can the lock the locks but not the clocks, they got us servin’ time. I’m from by the dock and we love Glocks, we call it, “Murdaside”. Hangin’ out the window with a shotty, that’s a scary ride.”, reports the Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mazza L20’s fame has soared, with his top tracks racking up tens of millions of streams and even catching the eye of legendary rapper Eminem – who messaged him on Instagram proposing a meet-up during his next UK visit. His stint on Fire in the Booth – a YouTube programme where renowned rappers showcase their freestyle prowess, has become the most watched ever.<\/p>\n

His Instagram followers have also swelled to over 450,000.<\/p>\n

Since his release, Mazza’s “bouncing flow and razor sharp bars” have “turned heads across the industry”, establishing him as “one of the genre’s most exciting rising stars”, according to music magazine Wonderland.<\/p>\n

A year after his release from prison, Graham welcomed a baby boy with his partner Kee.<\/p>\n

Announcing the pregnancy, he shared on Instagram: “Words can’t describe how I feel. Me and Kee have turned 2 into 3. No. 1 priority, but what’s understood doesn’t have to be explained.<\/p>\n

“Thank you to everyone for all your support – you don’t know half the s*** we’ve been through… Family first… Now it’s time to take over.”<\/p>\n

During an interview with podcaster James English, Mazza opened up about his upbringing and how he fell into a life of crime – along with his time behind bars.<\/p>\n

He revealed his house “was always getting raided” from a young age, impacting his school life and ultimately leading to his expulsion.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his release from prison, he said: “When you go away for that long, all the relationships you had, all the bonds get broken…because of the distance and that’s what people don’t realise.<\/p>\n
