A viral video of an \u2018unlikely friendship\u2019 between an otter and a fox could give the new John Lewis<\/a> Christmas advert a run for its money.<\/p>\n

Facebook<\/a> users have compared CCTV footage of the animals running together through the streets of Lincoln to the tear-jerking Christmas advert<\/a>, which depicts the relationship between a father and his son.<\/p>\n

Cameras captured the pair navigating the city in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n

The council posted the video on Facebook, earning more than 420,000 views and over 7,000 likes.<\/p>\n

One user said: \u2018Better than a Christmas John Lewis TV advert\u2019.<\/p>\n

Another said this was the \u2018best use of CCTV ever\u2019, adding: \u2018I felt so sad for the fox when the otter went back in the river, hope they get to adventure together the next night.\u2019<\/p>\n

While one resident thanked the council for sharing the footage.<\/p>\n

\u2018How delightful to see that,\u2019 the local said.<\/p>\n

\u2018We often see a pair of ducks waddling about but this is amazing. Don\u2019t think we\u2019ve had an otter\u00a0daring to enter the shopping area with a fox.<\/p>\n

Steve Nichol, chief executive of Lincolnshire<\/a> Wildlife Park in Boston<\/a>, described the sighting as \u2018highly unusual\u2019, adding the duo had to be seen to be believed.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s so odd and those animals would never been seen hunting in the same areas. If anything they\u2019d be fighting each other rather than walking around the shops,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018You might see the odd fox around a city centre but to find an otter in a populated area is highly unusual.\u2019<\/p>\n

The council wrote: \u2018Our CCTV staff work<\/a> 24\/7, 365 days a year to keep Lincoln and all its inhabitants safe.<\/p>\n

\u2018They see families enjoying the city, friends making memories, and every now and then, an unlikely friendship blossoming.<\/p>\n

\u2018This week, they caught one worth sharing.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s not quite the new John Lewis Christmas<\/a> ad, but here, filmed in the wee small hours, is a short film of a fox and an otter and their little tour of Lincoln together.\u2019<\/p>\n
