Fresh claims from Brazil advance Manchester United\u2019s interest in Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.<\/p>\n

Manchester United\u2019s top priority in the January transfer window should be to sign a new midfielder. <\/p>\n

Several names have been linked to United already<\/a>, although it is unclear whether any of the club\u2019s key targets will be available.<\/p>\n

One intriguing name is Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes<\/a>. The relegation-threatened side do not really want to lose him<\/a>, but it is possible they could agree a sale and reinvest the money.<\/p>\n

The Mail<\/a> reported that United have reignited interest in Gomes, who has more than 100 appearances<\/a> in English football for Wolves.<\/p>\n

Now there are new claims from Brazil that suggest interest has taken a step forward.<\/p>\n

Brazilian outlet Trivela<\/a> claims that Manchester United have held talks over a deal for Joao Gomes.<\/p>\n

The report explicitly states that the discussions took place between United and Wolves.<\/p>\n

The website claims: \u201cAccording to Trivela, talks between United and Wolves have progressed in recent days. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere is even an expectation that the transfer will take place in the next transfer window, which begins in January.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seeing as it\u2019s mid-November, we aren\u2019t expecting a transfer announcement any time soon. There is still clearly work to be done.<\/p>\n

But if a deal does get agreed in January, we will point back to this moment as United laying the groundwork for a successful move.<\/p>\n

United signed Matheus Cunha<\/a> from Wolves in the summer, who played alongside Gomes and rates him highly.<\/p>\n

Gomes has eight caps for Brazil, and aims to succeed Casemiro<\/a> in midfield for his country \u2013 as well as possibly at club level too.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s interest in Gomes goes right back to 2022, when he was at Flamengo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe Casemiro. He is a bit older now, but I put Casemiro\u2019s name there only to show where Joao Gomes could arrive.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Joao has the possibility to arrive. He is very humble, and he works a lot. The good teams come like a gift when you do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gomes played all 90 minutes, but was unable to influence the result. Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the table.<\/p>\n
