Gary Hetherington believes Jamie Jones-Buchanan is the perfect person to replace him as Leeds Rhinos chief executive.<\/p>\n

But Hetherington has told Jones-Buchanan he will have to be prepared to make decisions that will make him unpopular.<\/p>\n

Hetherington has stood down from his role at the Rhinos following almost of three decades of being in charge to join the new era at London Broncos alongside Brisbane Broncos legend Darren Lockyer<\/a>. Jones-Buchanan will now take over, to continue his long association with the Super League giants.<\/p>\n

During a stellar playing career, Jones-Buchanan helped the Rhinos win 14 major trophies. And Hetherington admits Jones-Buchanan is the natural choice to succeed him at Headingley.<\/p>\n

Hetherington said: “What we didn’t need was someone from the outside coming in and telling us what to do.<\/p>\n

“Because we are bloody good at what we do. You need a face of the club, someone who maintains high standards.<\/p>\n

“Jamie-Jones is the perfect fit. He connects with the fans. He’s a local lad and a fan himself. He speaks well and is articulate. He ticks all the boxes. He’s ideal.<\/p>\n

“He needs the acumen to make key decisions, and I’ve told him, he has to be prepared to be unpopular.<\/p>\n

“If a decision needs to be made that’s in the best interests of the club, then make it. Some people can shy away from this, because they’re too worried about upsetting people.<\/p>\n

“But the criteria is to make one that’s in the best interests of the club.”<\/p>\n
