The more information that surfaces about the number of upcoming Star Wars films, the more it sounds like Lucasfilm wants to move away from using any pre-existing characters.<\/p>\n
Case in point, Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Deadpool & Wolverine), recently revealed that during the development of Star Wars: Starfighter, his upcoming\u00a0\u00a0Star Wars film set just 5 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, he met with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and pointed out that it might make sense to use some pre-existing characters.<\/p>\n
Levy, appearing on a podcast from The Playlist<\/a>, stated that he was surprised by Kennedy’s response, which was, “Every time I\u2019ve asked, \u2018Should I use this character that was maybe in that movie?\u2019 Every time it\u2019s, \u2018You know what? People have seen that. Do something new.\u2019”<\/p>\n “There is no mandate or interference other than the constant encouragement, \u2018Make this new.\u2019 And that\u2019s the truth.”<\/p>\n “Unlike \u2018Solo\u2019\u2026 unlike \u2018Rise of Skywalker,\u2019 which was a sequel to two other movies and ultimately a ninth film in the Skywalker saga, \u2018Starfighter\u2019 is all new characters based on new ideas that Jonathan and I cooked up alone and together.”<\/p>\n Levy’s Starfighter script was written by\u00a0Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, Warrior).<\/p>\n The Adam Project director also reflected on the very beginning of when he was first approached to tackle the project and the message he received.<\/p>\n “[Kathleen Kennedy] said, \u2018I want you to do a \u2018Star Wars\u2019 movie.\u2019 And I said, \u2018Well, what\u2019s it a prequel to? What\u2019s it a sequel to? Which one is it?\u2019 The answer was, \u2018It\u2019s whatever you want it to be. You pick the writer, you pick the story, just imbue it with the feeling that your movies have.'”<\/p>\n
