Scots are bracing for heavy snowfall<\/a> in the coming days with two cities forecast to take the brunt of the Arctic blast’s wintry conditions.<\/p>\n

Fresh weather<\/a> maps from WXCharts, which uses Met Desk data, reveal snowstorms spreading from the Highlands down to the North West of England. By midnight on December 4, snow<\/a> will start falling across the Highlands, the Borders, Cumbria, Lancashire, and Greater Manchester.<\/p>\n

Within six hours, around four inches will blanket the Highlands while up to two inches of snow will settle across the North West of England. Similar volumes of snow are expected to remain in both areas by midday that day.<\/p>\n

The weather maps indicate Glasgow<\/a> and Inverness will face the worst of the snowfall. Down south, Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Lancaster, and Carlisle will be the most heavily impacted.<\/p>\n

The Met Office has warned rain will feature heavily between November 27 and December 6, reports the Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It stated: “Rain could at times be heavy and prolonged, with the risk of gales. There could be some short-lived transient settled periods too, perhaps bringing an increased risk of frost and fog for a day or two, this most likely further south east.”<\/p>\n

“Milder than seen recently, with temperatures<\/a> more generally above average than below through much of the period.”<\/p>\n

However, those hoping for milder conditions ahead of December 4 may be let down, with the country set to experience low single digit and sub-zero temperatures. A bitterly cold spell is due to hit the UK on Tuesday, November 25, according to WXCharts.<\/p>\n

By Tuesday lunchtime, the coldest spot in the UK is expected to be the Highlands, with temperatures potentially dropping to a chilly -6C.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in Scotland, Aberdeen on the northeast coast is predicted to experience temperatures of around -2C, while Dundee and Glasgow are forecasted to be slightly warmer at -1C and 0C, respectively.<\/p>\n

London, however, will manage to stay above freezing, with lows of 1C. The coldest parts of England are forecasted to be the Pennines, the Midlands and the North, with temperatures falling to as low as -1C. Sheffield is set to shiver at about 0C to -1C, while Leeds and Stoke-on-Trent will hover at about 1C.<\/p>\n

It comes as councils across Scotland are encouraging residents to plan ahead <\/a>and be ready for any severe weather in the coming months.<\/p>\n

This includes action to avoid condensation, frozen and burst pipes, cold weather payments, travel advice, what to do in the event of a power cut and consumer advice.<\/p>\n

Councillor Helen Loughran, convener of the environment and climate change committee at North Lanarkshire Council<\/a>, said: “The winter weather impacts on us all – whether it\u2019s keeping our homes warm and safe, travelling in the cold and dark, or keeping the kids entertained when it\u2019s pouring outside.<\/p>\n
