After all the drama of the past few weeks, it all comes down to one key question: is the BBC institutionally biased?<\/p>\n

It was widely reported that Michael Prescott\u2019s leaked memo \u2013 which kicked off this whole controversy \u2013 raised concerns about “systemic problems” of bias in some of the BBC\u2019s coverage.<\/p>\n

So, it was very interesting to hear his response to whether he thinks the BBC is institutionally biased. He was fairly emphatic about it. \u201cNo, I don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prescott makes it clear that his concern was more that there were \u201cincipient problems\u201d and that the BBC wasn\u2019t tackling those as it should.<\/p>\n

He
\nsays: “The root of my disagreement and slight concern even today is that
\nthe BBC was not – and I hope they will change – treating these as having
\nsystemic causes. There’s real work that needs to be done at the BBC.\u201d<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll await to hear what other senior figures say about that later in this session.<\/p>\n
