{"id":281743,"date":"2025-11-25T03:02:03","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T03:02:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/281743\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T03:02:03","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T03:02:03","slug":"nassau-exec-bruce-blakeman-and-li-families-lead-push-to-add-gluten-warnings-on-all-restaurant-menus-packaged-foods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/281743\/","title":{"rendered":"Nassau Exec Bruce Blakeman and LI families lead push to add gluten warnings on all restaurant menus, packaged foods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nassau County  Executive Bruce Blakeman joined Long Island families Monday in leading a push to add gluten warnings to add packaged foods and restaurant menus across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Blakeman, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/17\/us-news\/nassau-county-executive-bruce-blakeman-challenges-hochul-to-draw-line-as-dsa-pressures-her-to-back-zohran-mamdani-tax-hike\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eyeing a potential run<\/a> for the Republican gubernatorial nomination next year, called on the US Department of Health and Human Services to mandate that companies add labels clearly stating whether products or dishes contain gluten of any kind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue is important because there are so many people who have celiac disease,\u201d said Blakeman at a press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to make sure people who have food issues, whether it\u2019s a food allergy or an autoimmune condition, have access to proper labeling so they know what they can safely consume,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is advocating for gluten labels to be added to all food packaging and restaurant menus. Clark<\/p>\n<p>Local parents with children who suffer from celiac disease \u2014 a condition where the immune system reacts harshly to anything containing gluten \u2014 also spoke in support of new federal rules identifying foods potentially harmful to them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like torture,\u201d 11-year-old Jude Leibson said of living with the autoimmune condition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 14,000 people suffer from the disease in Nassau County alone \u2014 enough to nearly fill UBS Arena in Elmont, Leibson pointed out and officials confirmed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we get gluten labeled, life would become so much easier,\u201d another 11-year-old, Jax Bari, told The Post after the press conference.<\/p>\n<p>The kids explained how difficult it is to navigate life while avoiding gluten, which includes wheat, barley, rye, and a slew of other everyday ingredients found in nearly all breads, pastas, cereals and processed foods.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jude Leibson, 11, spoke to reporters about his experience living with celiac disease.
