{"id":282683,"date":"2025-11-25T15:25:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T15:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/282683\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T15:25:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T15:25:10","slug":"dowen-farmer-reveals-designs-for-social-housing-at-battersea-power-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/282683\/","title":{"rendered":"Dowen Farmer reveals designs for social housing at Battersea Power Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The housing, for Battersea Power Station and Wandsworth Council, is effectively phase five of Rafael Vi\u00f1oly\u2019s masterplan for the 17ha regeneration project in south-west London.<\/p>\n<p>The homes will sit north of Grimshaw\u2019s Underground station for the Northern Line extension, and east of the Grade II*-listed former power station, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/buildings\/wilkinsoneyre-completes-battersea-power-station-retrofit-phase-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">overhauled in 2021 by WilkinsonEyre.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dowen Farmer says its designs \u2018include a nod to the power station\u2019s 1930s Art Deco heritage\u2019 as well as \u2018\u2018family-friendly, sustainable public spaces, tree-lined streets, and opportunities for local businesses, leisure and hospitality venues to flourish\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>If approved, the proposals could increase the level of affordable housing in the masterplan to either 15 per cent or 23 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Practice director Thomas Farmer said: \u2018We have worked closely with the wider project team at Battersea Power Station, Wandsworth Council and community stakeholders to design a development that fosters a strong sense of home and community, where residents feel a genuine sense of belonging.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In May, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/gehry-partners-gets-go-ahead-for-two-more-blocks-at-battersea-power-station\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wandsworth Council approved<\/a> Gehry Partners\u2019 plans for a further 306 private-sale homes next door to the practice\u2019s existing 308 homes at Battersea Power Station, completed under phase three.<\/p>\n<p>Other completed elements of the masterplan include Foster + Partners\u2019 Electric Boulevard offices, which are now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/foster-partners-takes-on-extra-offices-to-cope-with-growing-overseas-work\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">occupied by the top AJ100 practice itself<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Patel Taylor recently completed 386 affordable homes, part of the fourth phase, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/patel-taylors-battersea-housing-goes-in-for-planning\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a decade after<\/a> they won planning consent.
