{"id":284286,"date":"2025-11-26T11:38:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T11:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/284286\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T11:38:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T11:38:07","slug":"conor-benn-rejects-chance-to-face-welterweight-world-champion-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/284286\/","title":{"rendered":"Conor Benn rejects chance to face welterweight world champion next"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/conor-benn\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Conor Benn<\/a> has recently revealed his plans to return to 147lbs, but \u2018The Destroyer\u2019 has shut down talks of a potential clash with one reigning champion in the division.<\/p>\n<p>Benn overcame <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/chris-eubank-jr\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Eubank Jr<\/a> in their rematch to level the scores, but all the talk during the aftermath has been fixated on Benn\u2019s return to the welterweight scene, rather than a third middleweight showdown between the two fierce rivals.<\/p>\n<p>Despite not fighting at welterweight since 2022, Benn was eyeing up a shot at Mario Barrios\u2019 WBC world title on his debut at the weight, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/ryan-garcia-announces-next-fight\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texan now looks set for a fight against Ryan Garcia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Benn is left pondering whether he should wait to fight the victor of Barrios-Garcia, prepare for that contest with a non-title bout, or face an alternate champion \u2013 with each of Rolando Romero (WBA), Devin Haney (WBO) and <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/boxing\/3751864\/conor-benn-next-fight-offer-world-champion-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Lewis Crocker (IBF) interested in a meeting with Benn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, in an interview with Boxing News, Benn declared his lack of interest in a battle with Belfast\u2019s Crocker, admitting that the IBF\u2019s 10-pound rehydration clause would be an issue for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not really interested [in Lewis Crocker]. There is bigger fish to fry in my opinion, although he is the IBF [world champion], he is not really a name that is on my radar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, it\u2019s about the 10-pound rehydration [clause]. I would rather win the WBC [belt], for me, that is my main goal, or a big American name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe I can come over here [to the United States], headline in [Las] Vegas and fight the likes of Rolly [Romero], [Ryan] Garcia and [Mario] Barrios.
