{"id":284450,"date":"2025-11-26T13:59:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T13:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/284450\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T13:59:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T13:59:07","slug":"james-ryan-learns-ban-fate-after-thuggish-hit-on-malcolm-marx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/284450\/","title":{"rendered":"James Ryan learns ban fate after thuggish hit on Malcolm Marx"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>James Ryan has effectively been banned for Leinster\u2019s next two matches following his red card during the clash between Ireland and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Referee Matthew Carley issued Ryan a yellow card in the 20th minute of the encounter at Aviva Stadium after he executed a dangerous clear-out on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/south-africa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Springboks<\/a> hooker Malcolm Marx.<\/p>\n<p>His indiscretion also meant that Tadhg Beirne\u2019s try was disallowed while Carley sent the incident to be reviewed by the Foul Play Review Officer, who upgraded the yellow card to a 20-minute red.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/team\/ireland\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ireland<\/a> would ultimately go on to lose the match 24-13.<\/p>\n<p>James Ryan\u2019s ban<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetrugby.com\/tag\/james-ryan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan<\/a> has since fronted an independent Disciplinary Committee, who deemed that the decision to upgrade the yellow card to a red was the correct call and have determined that the lock\u2019s actions warranted a mid-range entry point on World Rugby\u2019s sanctioning provisions.<\/p>\n<p>World Rugby\u2019s Sanction Entry Points regarding Law 9.20.a \u2018Dangerous play in a ruck or maul\u2019 reads as follows: \u201cA player must not charge into a ruck or maul.
