Outside of a brief moment<\/a> at San Diego Comic-Con last year, and the cheeky arrival of the TARDIS in the background<\/a> of an episode of Strange New Worlds, attempts to make a Star Trek and Doctor Who crossover have seemingly fizzled out\u2014especially now that the former is preparing to film its final episodes<\/a>, and the latter is navigating its own post-Disney future<\/a>. But that doesn\u2019t stop one of the rare few stars who can say they\u2019ve appeared in both franchises from having ideas about how to make one happen.<\/p>\n

That star is, of course, Christina Chong, who plays Enterprise security chief La\u2019an Noonien Singh on\u00a0Strange New Worlds, and appeared in the 2011 Doctor Who episode \u201cA Good Man Goes to War\u201d<\/a> as Lorna Bucket, a soldier who had previously encountered the Doctor as a child, only to be tragically killed in the clash between the Doctor\u2019s allies and the sinister agents of the Silence. For Chong, the TARDIS\u2019 sneaky appearance in\u00a0Strange New Worlds\u2018 season 3 episode \u201cThe Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail\u201d<\/a> wasn\u2019t enough to satisfy her itch\u2026 and instead she dreams of a crossover episode that utilizes her unique connection to both franchises.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo what I would do is\u2014I played a character called Lorna Bucket in \u2018A Good Man Goes to War\u2019, one of Matt Smith\u2019s episodes\u2014and I would somehow find a way to make La\u2019an and Lorna Bucket the same character,\u201d Chong theorized in a recent panel appearance at the ST: CHI convention (via TrekMovie<\/a>). \u201c[I\u2019d] create a story as to why Lorna Bucket was in the Whoniverse, and what brought her to Trekverse. I don\u2019t know what that reason would be right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019d have to be a pretty crazy reason, given that we see poor Lorna take a bullet and die in the Doctor\u2019s arms in \u201cA Good Man Goes to War\u201d, never mind that she\u2019s from the 52nd century, while La\u2019an is from the 23rd. But\u00a0Doctor Who itself has done plenty of examples of reusing actors by suggesting a kind of temporal reuse of faces\u2014it was suggested in the most recent season, for example, that Varada Sethu\u2019s new companion Belinda, from contemporary Earth, had a temporal connection<\/a> to the 51st-century soldier Mundy Flynn, also played by Sethu the season prior in Steven Moffat\u2019s \u201cBoom\u201d<\/a>, even if it never ended up being explored.<\/p>\n

In fact, maybe\u00a0that\u2018s the connection, given that Flynn was a marine who served in the same religio-military organization as Lorna Bucket, the Church of the Papal Mainframe. Maybe something wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey happened, and Lorna\u2019s likeness found its way across time and space (and multiverses) to be born as La\u2019an? It\u2019s\u00a0Doctor Who *and* it\u2019s\u00a0Star Trek;\u00a0you can just make up some technobabble and say it works that way.<\/p>\n

Alas, no matter how much technobabble you fling onto the page, Chong\u2019s idea is unlikely to make it out of her fannish dreams.<\/p>\n
