To compound Liverpool<\/a>‘s misery, Hugo Ekitike limped off against PSV on Wednesday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With his side 2-1 down, the \u00a379million summer signing from Eintracht Frankfurt slapped the Anfield turf in frustration after it became clear he would have to come off.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Frenchman had been involved in a tussle for the ball on a Liverpool counter attack but there did not appear to be any great contact.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Arne Slot<\/a> will fear Ekitike has gone down with a muscle injury and could be side-lined for a considerable amount of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There was no chance of the striker playing on as he immediately signalled to the substitutes bench.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alexander Isak came on to replace him but Ekitike had been one of the bright sparks in the Liverpool team during another strange performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Frenchman will be a huge miss for the Reds if he is out for a substantial period of time\u00a0<\/p>\n

By the time Ekitike came off, PSV were 2-1 up at Anfield despite having dominated the game for large periods.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a similar pattern to recent defeats, the Reds found defensive lapses costing them, with Virgil van Dijk giving an extraordinary penalty away with an early handball.<\/p>\n

The hosts soon equalised through Dominic Szoboszlai, who tapped in following a Cody Gakpo shot parried into his path.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And despite dominating the rest of the first 45 minutes, they found themselves behind in the second half.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mauro Junior played a defence-splitting pass to pick out the run of Guus Til, who finished with aplomb.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Regardless of the outcome, Slot has a huge amount to ponder and will be waiting nervously about the severity of Ekitike’s injury.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
