Arne Slot<\/a> has confirmed that Curtis Jones<\/a> will take over as right-back when Liverpool take on PSV Eindhoven, with Dominik Szoboszlai<\/a> moving to midfield instead.<\/p>\n

Szoboszlai filled the role of right-back in Saturday\u2019s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest<\/a>, but Jones has been rotated into the position for the Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That comes with Conor Bradley<\/a> and Jeremie Frimpong<\/a> both still sidelined, with Slot explaining his decision in a pre-match interview with TNT Sports.<\/p>\n

What Arne Slot said on Curtis Jones at right-back<\/p>\n

\u201cI can understand that there\u2019s some doubt, because I told them both that they can play that position,\u201d Slot told Steven Gerrard<\/a> and Steve McManaman, who had debated whether Szoboszlai or Jones would be given the duty.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Joe Gomez<\/a> of course can, but he\u2019s been struggling a bit lately with a knee injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s available, but Curtis will start tonight as a right-back.\u201d<\/p>\n

The head coach continued: \u201cDominik played there against Forest, did OK to good, wasn\u2019t the reason why we lost that game.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the thing with him is you like him in midfield, you like him at full-back.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the way, Curtis the same: I like him in midfield and he can play as a full-back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why Alexander Isak dropped to the bench vs. PSV<\/p>\n

Slot made only two changes to his lineup from the weekend, with Alisson<\/a> ill and therefore replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili<\/a> while Hugo Ekitike<\/a> took over from Alexander Isak<\/a> up front.<\/p>\n

Asked whether Isak had dropped out due to fitness or performance, the Dutchman explained that it was the former.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex, I think in the last four weeks he played 30 minutes [for Sweden], and then he played with us 70 minutes,\u201d Slot said.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Forest was] a game that wasn\u2019t so intense I would say, because we dominated ball possession so much, but I think I could see it wasn\u2019t easy for him to manage himself through those 70 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo then if you have another No. 9 who is also very good, then it makes sense to play the other one \u2013 and that\u2019s Hugo tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
