The octagonal two-storey building is billed as a \u2018first of its kind\u2019 intergenerational and forest nursery, which will \u2018blend generations\u2019 on the site in Chorley Road close to the Worthington Lakes.<\/p>\n

The scheme, dubbed The Nest, will be built with a glulam-framed structure and will be clad in green stained triccoya panels.<\/p>\n

The internal layout is divided into segments, all of which can be opened up or closed down \u2018depending on the required function\u2019, allowing sessions involving both the elderly community and the early years to be run throughout the week.<\/p>\n

The building will have a triple-height central atrium, which the London-based practice says will support the building\u2019s passive cooling strategy.<\/p>\n

The nursery will be operated by Millennium Care, which says it hopes the scheme \u2018will provide a consistent stream of intergenerational activities\u2019, this being one of its \u2018main non-pharmacological approaches to elderly care\u2019.<\/p>\n

It has been developed with charity Intergenerational England<\/a>, which aims to bring together the public, voluntary, and private sectors \u2018in the fight against ageism and age segregation\u2019.<\/p>\n

Delve Architects director Alex Raher said the scheme would be a \u2018benchmark for showcasing the importance of designing for Intergenerational use\u2019.<\/p>\n

Millennium Care managing director Omair Hader said: \u2018Our ambition is to ensure that the spark that comes from mixing the young and older alike becomes part of the natural rhythm and daily life at [the care village].\u2019<\/p>\n

Work is expected to start on site next summer.<\/p>\n
