Sweeney added that soon AI will be a part of the way all games are made.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The AI tag is relevant to art exhibits for authorship disclosure, and to digital content licensing marketplaces where buyers need to understand the rights situation,&#8221; Sweeney said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It makes no sense for game stores, where AI will be involved in nearly all future production.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since January 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/steams-revised-policy-to-allow-the-vast-majority-of-games-using-ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Valve has allowed &#8220;the vast majority of games&#8221; using AI<\/a> on its Steam platform, but requires developers to disclose how the tech has been used. This was an about-turn on the PC giant&#8217;s previous policy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/developers-say-valve-blocks-ai-games-from-steam\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">which was much more tentative on AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Data from Totally Human Media published in July 2025 showed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/7-of-games-in-the-entire-steam-library-now-disclose-generative-ai-usage-study-says\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">that seven per cent of the games on Steam disclose the use of generative AI<\/a>; the previous year, just 1.1% of titles on Valve&#8217;s platform used the tech.<\/p>\n<p>Indie platform Itch.io has also required developers to disclose whether generative AI was used in the creation of their games <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/itchio-now-requires-creators-to-declare-if-their-work-uses-generative-ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">since November 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Arc Raiders\" data-autosize=\"crop_lossy\" data-lightbox=\"\" data-uri=\"ARC-Riders.jpg\" height=\"1080\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1.7777777777777777\" width=\"1920\"\/><\/p>\n<p>ARC Raiders&#8217; use of AI voices attracted controversy. | Image credit: Embark Studios<\/p>\n<p>Sweeney&#8217;s remarks about AI becoming a ubiquitous part of the game development process echo statements made by the CEO of Nexon; earlier in the month, he said that: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/nexon-ceo-says-its-important-to-assume-every-game-company-is-using-ai-following-arc-raiders-debate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">it&#8217;s important to assume every game company is using AI<\/a>&#8220;.
