In a recent interview, the Deadpool &amp; Wolverine director opened up about the original trilogy film that somewhat served as a blueprint for his take on the Star Wars franchise.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Levy says his Starfighter film is \u2018most like\u2019 Star Wars: Return of the Jedi<\/p>\n<p>During his recent appearance on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gGR3kf3VFpk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">On Film\u2026 With Kevin McCarthy podcast<\/a>, Shawn Levy stated that Starfighter is \u201cmost inspired\u201d by Star Wars: Episode VI \u2013 Return of the Jedi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me tell you something. People \u2013 I\u2019ve not said this out loud because everyone\u2019s like \u2018Which Star Wars movie is Starfighter the most like? Which is the most inspired by?\u2019 If I\u2019m being honest \u2013 I know the cool answer would be Empire, and sort of the inarguable answer would be A New Hope \u2013 but it\u2019s kinda Jedi,\u201d the 57-year-old filmmaker explained.<\/p>\n<p>Levy then elaborated on the reasoning behind his statement, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s Jedi because of the combination of theme, levity, adventure, heart, spectacle. Somehow, that movie just got it right for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also disclosed his personal connection with Return of the Jedi in the interview, adding, \u201cAnd I saw that movie so many times in a theater, more times in a theater than New Hope and Empire, and it stuck with me. I will tell you\u2026 There\u2019s moments where I\u2019m on set, and I feel like that kid is with me, in the director\u2019s chair. Like I\u2019m there making his dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Led by Ryan Gosling, Star Wars: Starfighter takes place five years after the events of 2019\u2019s Rise of Skywalker. Alongside Gosling, the movie also stars Flynn Gray,\u00a0Matt Smith,\u00a0Mia Goth,\u00a0Aaron Pierre,\u00a0Simon Bird,\u00a0Jamael Westman,\u00a0Daniel Ings, and\u00a0Amy Adams in key roles.
