The European Space Agency and the Republic of Poland are\u00a0considering the creation of\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0ESA\u00a0centre\u00a0focusing on security to\u00a0be\u00a0located\u00a0in\u00a0Poland.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The announcement was made as part of the outcomes of ESA’s Ministerial Council\u00a0(CM25), taking place in Bremen, Germany.\u00a0The focus of\u00a0the potential\u00a0centre\u00a0in Poland\u00a0would be\u00a0complementary to existing security and\u00a0resilience\u00a0activities, particularly at the European Space Security and Education Centre (ESEC) in\u00a0Belgium. It would also\u00a0support efficient and coherent development of European space security and resilience capabilities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“This is a positive\u00a0step in Poland’s involvement in ESA and will support Poland’s growth as an emerging space power, particularly in the areas of crisis response, resilience and\u00a0defence,” said ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher. “I look forward to\u00a0seeing the next steps\u00a0in line with Poland’s\u00a0dynamic growth in space.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
During\u00a0CM25, Poland committed to participation in the European Resilience from Space initiative,\u00a0which\u00a0will co-ordinate independent dual-use space applications using pooling and sharing of national,\u00a0commercial\u00a0and European assets to deliver reliable, secure, and\u00a0timely\u00a0information for users.\u00a0Poland and ESA will now work together to review the technical requirements, thematic\u00a0aspects\u00a0and funding of the potential\u00a0centre.\u00a0ESA\u00a0Council will be advised of the outcome during 2026.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Poland joined ESA in 2012 and in the past 13\u00a0years,\u00a0has shown significant growth in space capacity and capabilities.\u00a0Poland has increased its financial\u00a0contribution to ESA ten-fold over the past three years.\u00a0Today,\u00a0more\u00a0than 70 companies across 10\u00a0regions\u00a0are advancing Poland’s position in the global space industry, while ESA project astronaut S\u0142awosz\u00a0Uzna\u0144ski-Wi\u015bniewski\u00a0completed\u00a0his successful\u00a0Ignis\u00a0short-duration\u00a0mission to the International\u00a0Space Station\u00a0in 2025. Poland is already\u00a0host to\u00a0ESA Business Incubation\u00a0Centres\u00a0and\u00a0other ESA\u00a0activities in\u00a0cities such as Warsaw, Rzeszow, Gdansk,\u00a0Pozna\u0144, and\u00a0Wroclaw.<\/p>\n
