{"id":28788,"date":"2025-07-28T13:45:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T13:45:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/28788\/"},"modified":"2025-07-28T13:45:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T13:45:08","slug":"china-launches-first-national-childcare-subsidies-in-bid-to-tackle-demographic-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/28788\/","title":{"rendered":"China launches first national childcare subsidies in bid to tackle demographic crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China has announced its most significant central-level effort to reverse a deepening <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3313355\/chinas-demographic-crisis-could-ease-male-childcare-subsidies-new-research-suggests?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">demographic crisis<\/a> since allowing families to have three children, unveiling a long-awaited national childcare subsidy scheme that will provide up to 10,800 yuan (US$1,505) per child under the age of three.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The move came amid mounting urgency among policymakers to stem the population decline and blunt its long-term drag on economic growth and social stability, after years of piecemeal local incentives that failed to reverse the downward trend.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">China will provide an annual childcare subsidy of 3,600 yuan for every child born on or after January 1, 2025, until they turn three \u2013 regardless of whether they are the first, second or third child, according to a government announcement on Monday.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Children born before that date but still under three will also be eligible for a prorated subsidy based on the remaining months.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 provinces across China have already <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/china-economy\/article\/3303756\/why-china-betting-birth-subsidies-solve-its-population-crisis?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">experimented with childcare subsidies<\/a> at various local levels.
