{"id":287984,"date":"2025-11-28T14:31:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T14:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/287984\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T14:31:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T14:31:17","slug":"neighbour-row-erupts-as-england-cricket-legends-son-wins-heated-row-over-3-85m-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/287984\/","title":{"rendered":"Neighbour row erupts as England cricket legend&#8217;s son wins heated row over \u00a33.85m estate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The son of England cricket legend Colin Cowdrey has won a legal battle against his neighbour after she sabotaged the sale of his Kent estate through what a judge described as &#8220;blackmail&#8221; tactics.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Cowdrey, 65 &#8211; whose father, Colin, captained England&#8217;s cricket team &#8211; accused Vanessa Gibson, 55, of &#8220;terrorising&#8221; him during the sale and successfully sued for malicious falsehood and harassment at Central London County Court.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute centred on land Gibson had acquired, including a portion of Cowdrey&#8217;s tennis court.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Jane Evans-Gordon ruled that Gibson had deliberately concealed her land purchase before using it to demand excessive payments from Cowdrey.<\/p>\n<p>The judge found Gibson&#8217;s behaviour &#8220;unreasonable and oppressive&#8221;, determining that she had attempted to prevent the \u00a33.85million sale of Cowdrey&#8217;s property unless he met her financial demands.<\/p>\n<p>When Cowdrey purchased the Grade II-listed property in early 2022, Gibson initially helped him feed his ducks.<\/p>\n<p>However, after Cowdrey decided to sell the 10-acre estate just months later, Gibson launched what he described as a &#8220;clusterbomb&#8221; of complaints on email.<\/p>\n<p>She contacted Cowdrey, his solicitor and estate agent, with allegations about his rights to run utilities, including water, electricity, sewage and telephone lines across her land.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"6114d\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"37812231e4b7c5d49fd3f51ea5ff7b34\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%202000%203000'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/jeremy-cowdrey.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"3000\" alt=\"Jeremy Cowdrey\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Cowdrey is the son of England cricket legend Colin Cowdrey<\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>GETTY<\/p>\n<p>Gibson also raised concerns about flooding in the area, suggesting it might have resulted from work carried out by the property&#8217;s previous owners.<\/p>\n<p>Although Cowdrey had already agreed to fence off the disputed land and relinquish any claim to it, Gibson&#8217;s emails implied the dispute remained unresolved, ultimately leading prospective buyers to withdraw from the agreed \u00a33.85million sale.<\/p>\n<p>During the July trial, Cowdrey compared Gibson&#8217;s relentless campaign to water torture, stating: &#8220;I likened it to the Japanese drip of water because it was like that. We are on the third anniversary of this.
