Talented Teesside golfer Tom Hartshorne has capped off a season of hard work and steady progression by being selected for the England Under-18s squad, just weeks after turning 16. He will also close out 2025 on one of junior golf\u2019s biggest stages after qualifying for the Justin Rose Telegraph Championship in Portugal.<\/p>\n
Described as the unofficial junior golf major, the three-day final brings together the UK\u2019s top young players at The Quinta do Lago Resort, with past competitors including Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick.<\/p>\n
Tom, who is sponsored by Teesside recycling specialists Scott Bros, has described it as \u201ca hard season\u201d as he continues to work on his game while adapting to the demands of frequent travel and extended periods away from home. His father, Ali Hartshorne, said: \u201cTom hasn\u2019t always had the results he wanted this year, but he\u2019s represented England six times and continues to develop his game. He\u2019s progressing all the time as he grows, both as a player and a person.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the challenges, Tom has delivered a series of great performances, helping England secure victory in the 2025 Girls\u2019 & Boys\u2019 Home Internationals, representing his country at both the European Boys\u2019 Team Championship and the European Young Masters, narrowly missing out in a play-off at the Fairhaven Trophy, and claiming a tied-third finish at the Peter McEvoy Trophy.<\/p>\n
One of his proudest achievements came at Hurworth\u2019s Rockliffe Hall. A member there since he was four-years-old, he won the Men\u2019s Club Championship at the age of 15. Sponsorship from Scott Bros has helped ease the financial pressures of an increasingly demanding competition calendar, contributing towards the costs of some of the 16 national and international events he has competed in this season.<\/p>\n
Tom, from Eaglescliffe<\/a>, who is also a member of Teesside Golf Club, said: \u201cI\u2019m really grateful to Scott Bros, as a local business, for its continued support. Competing in events adds up, and sponsorship allows me to focus fully on my golf.
