Donald Trump<\/a> has declared he intends to cancel most of the executive orders signed by Joe Biden<\/a>, his predecessor as president of the United States.<\/p>\n

In a post on social media, Trump claimed baselessly that Biden had not signed off on the orders himself, saying that \u201cthe radical left lunatics circling Biden around the beautiful Resolute Desk in the Oval Office took the Presidency away from him\u201d by signing his name using an autopen<\/a> \u2013 a signature machine that has commonly been used by US presidents since the device\u2019s invention.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Autopen is not allowed to be used if approval is not specifically given by the President of the United States,\u201d Trump said, baselessly alleging that it was operated by other people without Biden\u2019s approval and claiming that \u201capproximately 92%\u201d of all executive orders were therefore invalid.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoe Biden was not involved in the Autopen process and, if he says he was, he will be brought up on charges of perjury.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has repeatedly alleged that Biden was addled by the end of his term in office and not the one making decisions. Trump has also claimed many times, without evidence, that the Biden administration officials may have forged their boss\u2019s signature by using the autopen and taken broad actions he was not aware of.<\/p>\n

Trump has also obsessively cast doubt on the validity of pardons and other documents that Biden signed with an autopen, even though for decades other presidents have also relied on the device to sign key papers. Trump himself has also used an autopen in the past<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The sweeping announcement left many questions about how Trump would actually nullify Biden\u2019s pardons and executive orders, given that US presidents are allowed to use the autopen \u2013 and that there has been no concrete evidence of any attempt to bypass Biden\u2019s will at the end of his second term.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Trump\u2019s post was swiftly celebrated by Republicans.<\/p>\n

Oversight Project, a branch of the conservative Heritage Foundation started in 2022 with a mission of \u201cincreasing aggressive oversight of the Biden administration\u201d, and which has relentlessly promoted the narrative about Biden\u2019s use of autopen, thanked Trump in a post on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you President Trump for taking our historic Autopen investigation and findings seriously and ordering your Administration to take action,\u201d the group said.<\/p>\n

Congressman James Comer, the Republican chair of the GOP-led House oversight committee, also welcomed Trump\u2019s announcement<\/a>, writing on X: \u201cI applaud President Trump for deeming President Biden\u2019s autopen actions NULL AND VOID.\u201d<\/p>\n

The oversight committee released a report in October on Biden\u2019s use of the autopen that made many sweeping claims but did not include any concrete evidence that aides conspired to enact policies without Biden\u2019s knowledge or that he was unaware of laws, pardons or executive orders signed in his name.<\/p>\n

The report alleged a \u201ccover-up of the president\u2019s cognitive decline\u201d orchestrated by Biden\u2019s inner circle and pushed contested claims that the president\u2019s mental state had declined to such an extent that White House officials were able to enact policies without his knowledge, and focused heavily on the pardons he granted in office, many of which infuriated Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Democrats on the committee denounced the report as a \u201csham\u201d, highlighting that the report included no evidence to support the allegations.
