Huge piles of ‘trade waste’ have been dumped in the middle of a country lane in Lancaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n Pieces of metal, plastic, sheeting and other waste including timber with nails dangerously sticking out were found strewn across Powderhouse Lane earlier this week.<\/p>\n Lancaster City Council said their officers have cleared it away after being notified by members of the public.<\/p>\n It is one of nearly 3,400 fly-tipping incidents reported in the past year costing the local taxpayer \u00a3276,927.<\/p>\n An investigation is under way to find those responsible for and the council is appealing for information.<\/p>\n In a statement on Facebook<\/a>, a spokesperson said: “This mess was dumped right in the middle of the road on Powderhouse Lane in Lancaster.<\/p>\n “Our officers cleared it away after being notified \u2013 thank you to those who reported it.<\/p>\n “Can you help us? If you saw anything or have information about who maybe responsible, please email: environmentalhealth@lancaster.gov.uk<\/p>\n “In the past year, we’ve cleared up 3,394 fly-tipping incidents to the tune of \u00a3276,927 to local tax payers.<\/p>\n “While this appears to be trade waste, if you do pay for someone to take your waste away:<\/p>\n Ask for their waste carrier registration numberCheck it on the Environment Agency\u2019s public register or call 0300 065 3000<\/p>\n “We\u2019re always grateful to the public for alerting us to issues.
