He will now be playing PSL 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Faf du Plessis will not be returning to the Indian Premier League for the next season as the former South African captain announced on Saturday that he has opted for the \u201cnew challenge\u201d in the Pakistan Super League.<\/p>\n<p>Du Plessis, who was part of the IPL since 2012, has withdrawn from the upcoming auction that will take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. The 41-year-old was released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction after a poor 2025 season where he could only score 202 runs at a poor average and strike rate.<\/p>\n<p>STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD<\/p>\n<p>Du Plessis will be returning to the PSL where he has played only six matches across two seasons in 2020 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Du Plessis pens heartfelt note<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter 14 seasons in the IPL, I\u2019ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It\u2019s a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back. This league has been a massive part of my journey. I\u2019ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, for amazing franchises, and in front of fans whose passion is like nothing else. He also represented Delhi Capitals and Rising Pune Supergiants.<\/p>\n<p>In 154 IPL matches, Du Plessis amassed 4773 runs at an average of 35.10 and a strike rate of 135.79.<\/p>\n<p>Du Plessis to play in PSL<\/p>\n<p>The former South Africa captain has previously played six matches in PSL. He played a game for Peshawar Zalmi in the 2020 season before returning the next season to play five matches for Quetta Gladiators. This season the league in Pakistan will yet again clash with IPL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, I\u2019ve chosen to take on a new challenge and will be playing in the upcoming PSL season.
