Molly McCann came out on top of a bloody bout on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The former UFC<\/a> star notched a points victory over Ebonie Cotton to improve to 2-0 in her fledgling professional boxing career on the Ben Whittaker vs Benjamin Gavazi undercard in Birmingham.<\/a><\/p>\n

After six rounds of action, referee Ryan Churchill scored the fight 58-56 in McCann’s favour.<\/p>\n

It was a high-octane affair that saw both women meet toe to toe in the centre of the ring.<\/p>\n

Cotton put up an admirable effort and fought through a crimson mask for the second half of the fight after a nasty clash of heads in the fourth stanza.<\/p>\n

But, in the end, the Liverpudlian proved too crafty.<\/p>\n

McCann competed 14 times (7-7) for the\u00a0UFC<\/a>\u00a0during a 7-year stint.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0she hung up her gloves in March<\/a>\u00a0after falling to a first-round submission loss against Brazil’s Alexia Thainara.<\/p>\n

Four months later, it was confirmed that the 35-year-old had signed with Eddie Hearn<\/a>‘s Matchroom Boxing.<\/p>\n

Announcing the news in July, Hearn said: “This is all about\u00a0Molly McCann<\/a>, the official announcement that boxing is next.<\/p>\n

“She has officially signed with Matchroom Boxing. Molly McCann will compete now as a boxer.<\/p>\n

“It is about time as well. [She is] a former ABA champion; everyone knows her ability as a boxer.<\/p>\n

“Obviously, she has been a massive star within the UFC, which has grown her profile globally.<\/p>\n

“We are delighted to start the journey with her. We are going to fighting her all around the world, and there are going to be some massive nights.<\/p>\n

“I had the pleasure of watching her cageside in the UFC, and the atmosphere, the energy and the fanbase of this woman is incredible.<\/p>\n

“Great person, great fighter, and now putting the gloves on for real. The boxing journey is about to begin.”<\/p>\n

McCann made her pro debut in September with a sixth-round stoppage victory over Kate Radomska.<\/p>\n
