Downtown Silver Spring kosher eatery Cafe K<\/a> has expanded its offerings, adding dinner service that is set to begin on Thursday, December 4.<\/p>\n

The restaurant opened in the former David\u2019s Cafe on Spring Street last summer and planned to expand its menu to include dinner options after its initial opening period.<\/p>\n

The Montgomery County Board of License Commissioners approved the restaurant\u2019s alcohol license application in July.<\/p>\n

According to Washington Jewish Week<\/a>, Cafe K is a family business, with owner and window treatment industry veteran Dan Kugler opening the restaurant for his son-in-law, Shai Kornblau, who Kugler said has always wanted to have his own cafe.<\/p>\n

The eatery\u2019s menu at its July opening included a kosher dairy menu of fresh bagels, omelets, paninis, salads, fish, and more, as well as breakfast and lunch items, soft-service ice cream, and gourmet coffee sourced through its partnership with nearby roaster Nagadi Coffee.<\/p>\n

Shuga x Ice owner Ndidiamaka Agu has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help rebuild the business after losing its physical space<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n

The African-inspired ice cream shop closed in October after Solaire Social operator Hospitality HQ notified vendors by email that the food hall was closing and that they had two days to vacate the premises.<\/p>\n

Solaire Social was the first of two food halls announced for downtown Silver Spring. Commas held its grand opening<\/a> on the third level of the Ellsworth Place mall in September.<\/p>\n

Shuga x Ice offers handcrafted and small-batch ice cream and frozen desserts with an African flavor profile. According to Bethesda Magazine<\/a>, the business was also one of the first to open at Solaire Social and has since gained a large social media following, hosting ice cream-making classes and events to support Black women in business.<\/p>\n

Agu also added a Cafe Shuga coffee bar at the now-closed food hall, offering signature drinks and affogato pairings that combine Shuga x Ice ice cream with Cafe Shuga\u2019s signature lattes.<\/p>\n

According to the GoFundMe campaign listing<\/a>, funds will help expand Shuga x Ice find a new physical location, expand its production with nationwide shipping, and a pop-up tour, with New York and Atlanta confirmed and more cities forthcoming.<\/p>\n

The Shuga x Ice Rebuild Fund has raised nearly $1,300 of its posted $10,000 fundraising goal as of this article\u2019s publishing on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
