Man Utd have made a record-breaking \u2018offer\u2019 to sign Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports.<\/p>\n
The Red Devils spent over \u00a3200m on five new signings in the summer transfer market with priority given to improvements in attacking areas.<\/p>\n
After being the fifth lowest scorers in the Premier League last term, Man Utd<\/a> brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to try and solve their goalscoring woes.<\/p>\n But many Man Utd supporters and former players thought failing to sign a new midfielder in the summer was a massive mistake after their issues last term.<\/p>\n The Red Devils did make enquiries for Atletico Madrid\u2019s Conor Gallagher and Brighton\u2019s Carlos Baleba but in the end nothing concrete came from those talks.<\/p>\n And now reports in Spain indicate that Man Utd want to \u2018repeat the Casemiro deal\u2019 \u2013 which seems a bit strange considering he\u2019s mainly flopped at Old Trafford \u2013 by making an \u2018offer\u2019 for Real Madrid midfielder Valverde.<\/p>\n READ:\u00a0Premier League winners and losers: Foden, Frank, Sunderland, Paqueta, Arsenal and more\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n Man Utd are offering \u2018a fixed fee of \u20ac100 million plus \u20ac20 million in add-ons\u00a0to try and lure one of the most complete, physically imposing, and decisive players in world football away from\u00a0Real Madrid\u2019.<\/p>\n The \u20ac120m (\u00a3105m) fee would be a record-breaking deal for the Red Devils, whose biggest ever purchase was the \u00a389m they paid to Juventus for Paul Pogba in 2016, and INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe \u2018want to build a project with\u00a0Valverde\u00a0as its cornerstone and don\u2019t hesitate to place him among the most expensive signings in the club\u2019s history.\u2019<\/p>\n There could be a lot of change at Man Utd over the next couple of transfer windows as the Red Devils look to cut their current wage bill \u2013 but former\u00a0Man City\u00a0financial adviser\u00a0Stefan Borson doubts it will reduced as much as some think.<\/p>\n Borson told Football Insider<\/a>: \u201cI don\u2019t think United are going to cut \u00a3100m off the wage bill. Wage bills always come down slower than people think. United have already cut the wage bill quite aggressively.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery team has got players who are surplus to requirements who you go, \u2018Well, of course, we\u2019ll sell these players in the summer and then the wage bill will just collapse and we\u2019ll have a tiny wage bill\u2019. They\u2019ll probably end up keeping Bruno Fernandes. They\u2019ll probably end up doing a deal to keep Maguire. They might be on reduced salaries, but they\u2019re not going to go to zero.
