A Fortnite<\/a> artist whose work has been caught up in a generative AI controversy has fought back against the claims by showing the process behind his work.<\/p>\n

The juggernaut Battle Royale was taken to task this week<\/a> in the aftermath of its latest season\u2019s release for featuring some suspicious looking posters, including one with a character that has four toes.<\/p>\n

In and among the accusations was a Spray inspired by Marty McFly, which some users on Reddit<\/a> and ResetEra<\/a> argued resembled the Studio Ghibli filter that went viral on social media last year.<\/p>\n

Sean Dove, the long-time Fortnite freelancer who created the artwork<\/a>, has since taken to Instagram<\/a> to show the process behind his work, basically confirming it was created from scratch.<\/p>\n

He gradually reveals all of the layers, showing this was definitely a piece created by hand. However, he does admit that he pulled the clocks in the background off Google Images, and says it\u2019s \u201cpossible I grabbed an AI clock and wasn\u2019t paying attention\u201d.<\/p>\n

Clearly, though, this is an original piece of work and shows the challenge artists face moving forwards: even when not using AI, fans may ultimately accuse of them of doing so.<\/p>\n
