Emma Raducanu<\/a> has claimed that the lengthy tennis schedule is nothing \u201cto complain about\u201d, despite top players hitting out at the relentless calendar. Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Draper have been among those voicing concern in recent months, as most Masters 1000 tournaments have been extended to last 12 days, while there are also mandatory 500-point events on the WTA Tour.<\/p>\n

British No. 1 Raducanu played 50 matches this year – her most in a single season – and won 28 of them, so she knows that it can be tough to keep grinding it out on the tour. But the 23-year-old wants to set the right example to the future generation of tennis players.<\/p>\n

Raducanu said: \u201cOf course, the challenges of the tour, it\u2019s getting longer. The weeks are longer, and I think more tournaments are mandatory, so many tournaments that we have to play are mandatory and longer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just the Masters, it\u2019s also the 500s as well. I think that\u2019s a challenge. I don\u2019t necessarily think it\u2019s something to complain about because it\u2019s what we are given. And we are making a great living as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it\u2019s not all glamorous. There are definitely times when it\u2019s very difficult and we are flagging mentally, physically, everything hurts. But at the same time, what are we going to do about it? I am sure there are certain people who go to work and their bosses make them do something, but they have to do it, it\u2019s their job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, world No. 1 Alcaraz claimed that organisers were \u201cgoing to kill us in some way\u201d<\/a> when speaking about the congested calendar. British star Draper has repeatedly raised concerns<\/a> about the lengthy schedule causing burnout and injuries. And Iga Swiatek<\/a> admitted that she may have to start skipping some tournaments<\/a> to give herself a proper break<\/p>\n

But Raducanu doesn\u2019t want to moan. \u201cIf we put up a front that isn\u2019t complaining, I think that is a better example to the people watching, trying to get into tennis, the younger people, if they see all the top players moaning about the calendar, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s necessarily inspiring to look up to,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The world No. 29 used to be more selective with her schedule, especially after she was forced to shut down her 2023 season to undergo three surgeries. Raducanu has also struggled with persistent back issues.<\/p>\n

But she committed to playing more often this year and has now hired a new physiotherapist, Emma Stewart, to help her body adjust to the increased workload. Stewart previously worked on the WTA Tour – helping Raducanu with some of her back issues – before joining British Rowing, and has now become a member of Raducanu\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think what she brings to the team, she\u2019s very thorough. She crosses every T, dots every I. And I think it\u2019s a really big benefit, to be honest, to have someone who can do both strength and conditioning, and physio,\u201d the 23-year-old explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think because when you\u2019re in the gym doing a certain exercise, she knows my body\u2019s weaknesses.
