Liverpool fans remain convinced Arne Slot<\/a> is not using Federico Chiesa<\/a> often enough, after the Italian\u2019s vital cameo \u2013 at the other end of the pitch \u2013 against Sunderland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chiesa brought his tally of minutes in this season\u2019s Premier League<\/a> to 143 with four more in normal time during Wednesday\u2019s 1-1 draw with Sunderland<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While he replaced Alexander Isak<\/a> with a view to clinching a late winner, his most telling impact came with a dramatic block to deny Wilson Isidor a goal as the visitors countered.<\/p>\n

That it was down to Chiesa to charge back and ensure Liverpool held onto a point left the Mail\u2018s Dominic King \u201cstaggered.\u201d<\/p>\n

It’s wild watching Liverpool play the latter stages of games with the abandon of a team that’s a goal down in a Champions League semi-final with time running out. Federico Chiesa being last man, without another red shirt in 50 yards, was staggering. That clearance could be huge<\/p>\n

King was not the only onlooker left baffled by Chiesa\u2019s treatment by Arne Slot<\/a>, either, with the No. 14 still yet to start in the Premier League<\/a> or Champions League<\/a> despite being this season\u2019s fifth-most reliable source of goals.<\/p>\n

Chiesa has played 139 minutes in the league this season and got the winner vs Bournemouth, equaliser vs Palace, assisted the equaliser vs United, and saved us with a goal line clearance there. I just don’t get it. Play him.<\/p>\n

Chiesa has shown more fight than them all put together this season, and yet every week he gets treated like a numpty, getting 10 minutes here and there. It’s a joke how he’s been treated.<\/p>\n

Players who show more fight and intensity should be playing more minutes, even if it’s off the bench earlier. Chiesa, Ekitike, Jones etc. bring different energy to the lethargy and slow tempo we saw for most of game.<\/p>\n

Chiesa\u2019s absence from the side comes while Mohamed Salah<\/a>\u2018s starting spot is in question for the first time since joining from AS Roma in 2017.<\/p>\n

The Egyptian was left out of back-to-back games but then brought on at the break for the wholly ineffective Cody Gakpo<\/a>, who himself appears to have no competition for his place on the left.<\/p>\n

Given the clear lack of incentive when it comes to meaningful starts, it would be easy to forgive Chiesa for not applying himself as relentlessly as he does.<\/p>\n

But he continues to step up in key moments like his crucial block on Wednesday, which surely deserves more than he is getting in terms of opportunities.<\/p>\n
