Same Day Emergency Care upgrade works<\/p>\nSame Day Emergency Care upgrade works<\/p>\n
Phase two of works to improve the \u2018Same Day Emergency Care\u2019 (SDEC) units at the QEQM Hospital in Margate and William Harvey Hospital in Ashford are now due to begin.<\/p>\n
Phase one is completed following a funding announcement last Summer of \u00a329m for the East Kent Hospitals project.<\/p>\n
The second phase of the build is due to be finished by next summer with the hospitals\u2019 trust saying it will benefit both patients and the healthcare system by reducing waiting times and hospital admissions.<\/p>\n
At\u00a0QEQM Hospital, the urgent treatment centre has been moved to the Sarre building. Other major moves have included outpatient therapies (which were in the Sarre building) relocating to Walmer A, and a new rehabilitation gym has been created.<\/p>\n
East Kent Hospitals Trust says: \u201cSDEC units allows acute specialists to assess, diagnose and treat patients on the same day of arrival who would otherwise have been admitted to hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder this care model, patients presenting at hospital with certain conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated without being admitted to a ward, and if clinically safe to do so, will go home the same day their care is provided.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Trust has been awarded \u00a328.95m funding across both sites to improve the patient journey and experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Work started in\u00a0September and should finish by\u00a0summer 2026.<\/p>\n
