{"id":299206,"date":"2025-12-04T20:28:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T20:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/299206\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T20:28:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T20:28:08","slug":"castleford-tigers-v-oldham-2026-benidorm-bash-clash-cancelled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/299206\/","title":{"rendered":"Castleford Tigers v Oldham 2026 Benidorm Bash clash cancelled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Castleford Tigers and Oldham will square off in a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026 campaign, but it will no longer take place in Spain, with the scheduled Benidorm Bash cancelled by the event\u2019s organisers.<\/p>\n<p>It was announced back in August that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/super-league\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Super League<\/a> side Cas would take on Championship outfit Oldham as part of a five-day rugby league festival in Benidorm in January.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers spent a week in Benidorm ahead of the 2025 season and faced local side Valencia Huracanes in a friendly.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the scheduled 2026 Benidorm Bash, the Huracanes were set to be in action against an unconfirmed opponent while Alicante Cruzados were taking on Kippax Harriers.<\/p>\n<p>But just a few weeks out from the event, with plenty of details still left unconfirmed, it has been cancelled: so none of the three games will take place.<\/p>\n<p>Castleford-Oldham Benidorm Bash clash cancelled as chairman outlines next steps<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the cancellation to their supporters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/club\/oldham-rlfc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oldham<\/a> chairman Bill Quinn addressed the reasons behind it.<\/p>\n<p>Quinn confirmed that it was the event organisers who had pulled the rug on it due to being pressured by both the Roughyeds and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/club\/castleford-tigers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Castleford<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<p>Set to take place over the weekend of January 9-11, details including venue and ticket information were still yet to be received.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Bill Quinn updates supporters on the Benidorm Bash. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1nsgZJd5Pd\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/1nsgZJd5Pd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Oldham RLFC (@Roughyeds) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Roughyeds\/status\/1996635047928197596?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">December 4, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notably though, the two clubs have now agreed to face one another in a pre-season friendly, presumably on UK soil.<\/p>\n<p>Full details of that re-arranged friendly are still to be confirmed and will be announced in the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>But Quinn has urged supporters not to book any more flights or accommodation for the trip to Benidorm, which will now not be happening.<\/p>\n<p>Providing the friendly takes place over the same weekend, it will mark Ryan Carr\u2019s second unofficial game in charge of the Tigers, with a clash against Featherstone Rovers in the schedule before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>Oldham meanwhile are still coachless following the departure of Sean Long at the end of the 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loverugbyleague.com\/championship\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Championship<\/a> campaign.
